One area where most new Network Marketing professionals drop the ball is in follow up. This is critical to your short term and long term success. Most of us never follow up. We assume that if someone isn’t interested today…right now, they are never going to be.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Look at these statistics and you’ll quickly see the power in follow up.

  • 48% of sales people never follow up with the prospect
  • 25% of sales people make a second contact and then stop

Only 2% of sales are made on the first contact 3% are made on the second contact 10% of sales are made on the fourth contact 80% of sales are made somewhere between the 5th and 12th contact.

Seriously, 80% of sales occur between the 5th and 12th contact. Do you follow up with everyone at least 5 times? Will you commit to 12 times? What type of system do you use for follow up? Can you even find the last time you talked to a prospect and what you said?

Learning how to properly follow up and what to do during the follow up process is one of the most important skills you can learn.

Find your followup system. Personally I use the Gmail contact manager. I’ve learned to keep notes on my customers and prospects as well as the calendar feature for when I need to contact the person next. This work well because it’s always with me.

You can find “your own way of doing follow up”. Just find something that works for you. Even if you have to use the tried and true paper calendar get a system of followup.

If you KNOW the statistics are stacked in your favor, what would stop you from dripping a card on your former and potential hostesses and business prospects every 2 to 3 months? And, they don’t have to be prospecting cards. Just keep in touch and keep your name and business in their mind.

Another thoughtful way of following up is through a program called SendOutCards. This is an online greeting card company that can be a fantastic way to stay in front of your prospect. It’s so great in fact I became a distributor back in 2005 just so I could start using this program. Since then I’ve sent over 7500 cards (as of this writing) each month I send out cards to thank customers, ask for referrals and thank those that gave referrals as well as follow up cards to prospects.
